Description

Middle Kilburn Park is a farmhouse dating from the mid-18th century. It is constructed of coursed squared stone, with limestone on the front and dressings, while the rest is made of sandstone. The roof is covered with interlocking tiles. The building has two storeys with an attic and features three bays.

The garden front includes a central 20th-century half-glazed door set within a badly weathered moulded architrave. There are 16-pane sash windows with projecting stone sills and raised keystones above the lintels. An eaves band runs along the top, and the roof has shaped kneelers with ashlar coping. The end stacks are made of renewed brick. There is a lower addition set back on the left that is not of special interest.

At the rear, there are two steps leading up to a central 20th-century six-panel door within a chamfered quoined surround topped by a cambered-arched lintel. The left bay has side-sliding sashes with three lights, while the right bay has two lights, all featuring stone lintels and keyed lintels. Below the brick course, there is a chamfered eaves band, and the roof has shaped kneelers with ashlar coping.

The right return has a ground floor made of limestone and a blocked gable doorway where the former stair has been removed. The left return features a gable window. Historically, the farm was a grange of Byland Abbey and later came under the ownership of the Church Commissioners.
