Description

Winksley Hall Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in 1704, which incorporates parts of an earlier timber building, with alterations made between the 18th and 20th centuries. The structure is made of gritstone rubble and has a stone slate roof, featuring quoins. It has two storeys and four first-floor windows.

In the centre, there is a blocked doorway that has a 20th-century window and a finely-moulded shouldered architrave, along with a datestone inscribed with 'WG 1704'. To the right of this doorway is a 20th-century entrance with a stable door, which has rock-faced tooling on the lintel. To the left of the blocked entrance, there is a three-light side-sliding sash window with glazing bars, set in a chamfered stone surround, although the frame has been renewed. There is also a 20th-century opening of a similar size to the left again. The renewed sashes with glazing bars are present throughout the first floor, and the eaves line is slightly higher above and to the right of the entrance. Stacks are located at each gable end and above the blocked doorway.

At the rear, the ground floor features a two-light and a three-light recessed chamfered mullion window in the centre. Inside, the stack and fireplace opposite the entrance were rebuilt around 1960. A cruck blade remains against the rear wall on the left side of the ground floor, though it appears to have been sawn off at first-floor level, and no other remains were observed during the resurvey.
