Description

Farmhouse. Dated 1676, with later 17th and 20th-century alterations. Constructed of slobbered rubble with stone dressings and a slate roof. The building follows an 'F' plan, comprising a long rear range with a small, right-hand gabled projecting wing, and a larger gabled projecting wing to the right of centre, originally containing a lobby entrance. It has two storeys and six bays. The present left-hand entrance has a moulded surround and basket-arched lintel with imitation voussoirs, dated and inscribed 'P/A', and a 20th-century door. A continuous hoodmould covers the ground-floor three-light window, which is now blocked. On the upper floor, there is a single-light, double-chamfered window to the left and a two-light cavetto mullioned window to the right, both containing 20th-century casements. Eaves modillions are present on the left-hand gable end, which also has a ridge stack. A later gabled porch to the right of centre features a left-hand entrance, a moulded surround and a badly weathered lintel with a fleur-de-lis motif. It has a continuous hoodmould and a ground-floor two-light cavetto mullioned window to the right. The upper floor of the porch contains a stepped three-light window with cavetto mullions and roundheads, a stepped hoodmould, 20th-century casements, and fixed lights. A blocked two-light cavetto mullioned window is set into the gable. One bay between the two wings has a three-light, double-chamfered cavetto mullioned window on the ground floor, with a dripstone and 20th-century casements and fixed lights. The left-hand wing cuts into the dripstone, and the later right-hand wing butt-joints the window. The upper floor of the right-hand wing has a two-light, double-chamfered cavetto mullioned window, with 20th-century fixed lights, and eaves modillions. The gable end of the right-hand wing is blocked by a later barn. The left-hand return has a 20th-century door to the right and a two-light, double-chamfered cavetto mullioned window on the upper floor, with 20th-century casements. The rear elevation, also of two storeys and six bays, contains 17th-century mullioned windows on both floors. Inside, a basket-arched entrance leads to a parlour on the left of a former inglenook fireplace—now removed.
