Description
The Punch Bowl Hotel is an inn located in Burton in Lonsdale, dating from the 18th century with 19th-century additions. It is constructed of limewashed rubble with painted stone dressings and has a slate roof. The building is two storeys high and originally featured three bays, with a 19th-century extension added to the left.
The former central entrance has a plain surround and an ovolo hood, supported by 19th-century wooden consoles, with a door from around the 1970s. On the ground floor, there are three-light flat-faced mullioned windows with six-paned casements and fixed lights on both the left and right sides. The upper floor has three two-light flat-faced mullioned windows, also with six-paned casements and fixed lights.
There are brick ridge stacks on both the right and left sides at what was the former gable, now connected to the left-hand extension. This extension features a large 19th-century two-light window on the ground floor and a door from around the 1970s to the left, along with a small window.
