Description
Gates and lodges to Howsham Hall, dating from the late 18th century, are constructed from sandstone and feature ashlar detailing. The design includes two pairs of gate piers that are flanked by six-sided lodges in a Gothick style. Each pair of square-section piers, approximately 3 metres tall, has a moulded cornice and a ball finial, supporting a round-arched gateway that holds ornamental wooden gates. The gate piers are connected by a wall, about 1.60 metres high, leading to the lodges. Each lodge has a round-headed doorway beneath roll moulded arches that are supported by fluted capitals, along with square-headed mullion windows facing the gate piers. A moulded band runs along the structure, topped with an embattled parapet featuring rounded battlements.
