5/53 Gates and Lodges to 10.10.66 Howsham Hall (Formerly listed as Howsham Lodges and the main gates to Howsham Hall) GV II

Gates and lodges to Howsham Hall (qv). Late C18. Sandstone; ashlar. 2 pairs of gate piers flanked by 6-sided lodges in Gothick style. Gateway flanked by pairs of square-section piers approximately 3 metres in height, each with moulded cornice and ball finial, each pair holding round-arched gateway containing ornamental wooden gates. Gate piers connected by wall, approximately 1.60 metres in height, to lodges, each with round-headed doorways beneath roll moulded arches supported on fluted capitals, and square-headed mullion window towards gate piers. Moulded band. Embattled parapet with rounded battlements.
