Description

Pillimire Bridge is a bridge that likely dates from the late 17th century, with some rebuilding occurring in the late 18th century. It is constructed of rubble and features two segmental arches, one of which is usually dry. The main arch has a longer span and has been widened on the downstream side. There are slab hoodmoulds present, and an added pilaster buttress is located between the arches on the downstream side. The bridge has dressed stone coping that is shaped in a segmental section, and the parapets end in bollards at the northern end. This bridge was part of an important route during the time when lead was extensively mined in the valley.
