Description
Craven House is a house, probably built in the 1720s. It is constructed of rubble with a stone slate roof and has a deep plan featuring two rooms at the front and back. The building is two storeys high and has two bays. The doorway on the extreme left has an architrave, and above it is a panel that was once legible as 172. The large double chamfered stone mullion windows are currently designed with two lights, although they were originally four lights and have had their sills lowered. At the rear, there is a slightly chamfered doorway and 4-light double chamfered stone mullion windows on each floor, which are smaller than those at the front. The house has three chimneys. Inside, the stone wall that divides the bays extends up to the ridge of the roof. The timbers on the first floor have lap-joints, indicating they may have been reused. There is a one-and-a-half-flight closed string staircase featuring turned balusters, panelled newels, and a moulded handrail.
