Description
The Tithe Barn is a former school and schoolhouse, now serving as a village hall. It likely dates from the mid-19th century but may include earlier elements. The building is constructed of rubble with a stone slate roof. It consists of a single-storey school and a two-storey house that form a continuous range. The design features vernacular details, including a single-storey porch with a four-light double chamfered stone mullion and transom window, along with a doorway that has a slight ogee to the lintel. On each side of the porch, there is a 10-light window that matches the style. All windows and the door to the right have hoodmoulds, as do the three-light windows, one on each storey of the house. The building has three chimneys, and the roof is said to be of heavy king-post construction, retaining some timbers from a tithe barn that once stood on the site.
