Description

10/55 Southern Farm Building at Old Hall Farm

GV II

Farm building, formerly house, perhaps late C16. Rubble with stone slate roof. Two storeys. From road only a cart entry with hoodmouid is clearly visible. The exterior is largely featureless but inside are said to be four fireplaces, on south and west walls. The roof is said to have 5 trusses of which two have tie-beams and collars, 2 have king posts and curved braces, and one is open with slightly cusped blades. Some of these features may date from 1584, according to an inscription formerly attached to this building, of which the present where- abouts are unknown and which identifies the building as a former manor house of Carleton. (NYCVGSG Report: T D Whitaker, History and Antiquities of the Deanery of Craven, 1812).
