Description
The Southern Farm Building at Old Hall Farm is a farm building that was formerly a house, likely dating from the late 16th century. It is constructed of rubble with a stone slate roof and has two storeys. From the road, only a cart entry with a hoodmould is clearly visible. The exterior appears largely featureless, but inside there are said to be four fireplaces located on the south and west walls. The roof is reported to have five trusses; two of these feature tie-beams and collars, two have king posts and curved braces, and one is open with slightly cusped blades. Some of these architectural features may date back to 1584, based on an inscription that was once attached to the building, which is now missing. This inscription identified the building as a former manor house of Carleton.
