Description

This house, dating to 1639, is situated on West Lane in Sutton. It is constructed of whitewashed coursed rubble with a stone slate roof and has three chimneys. The original building is two storeys and three bays wide. A rear outshut projects to the right, containing a chamfered doorway belonging to number 10. Number 12 also features a chamfered doorway located between the second and third bays, sheltered by a stone hood resting on consoles. All windows are double-chamfered and retain their stone mullions. The ground-floor windows have hoodmoulds and consist of 2, 4, and 3 lights, while the first-floor windows have 2, 5, and 3 lights respectively. The outshut’s window is of 2 lights, with only the mullion being chamfered. Inside, scratched into the plaster above the central fireplace is the inscription "1639 TB". The roof structure incorporates heavy trusses with trenched purlins.
