Description
The structure is a retaining wall with a pedimented archway located on the north side of Yorkersgate, dating from the early 18th century. The archway is made of Hildenley limestone, while the wall is constructed from squared limestone and sandstone.
The gateway features quoined jambs, with the larger quoins being vermiculated. The arch consists of five stepped voussoirs that descend to a vermiculated keystone, topped by a pediment with a moulded cornice. The wall flanking the archway is also made of limestone, with sandstone used for the lower courses. The wall ramps up on either side of the archway, measuring approximately 45 meters in length and up to 2 meters in height. It is stepped up at intervals to square-section piers that have shallow pyramidal caps.
