Description
Peartree Cottage is a building that was originally a single house but was converted into two cottages in the 19th century. It dates back to the mid- to late-17th century and features 19th-century alterations. The exterior is made of slobbered rubble brought to course with stone dressings and a stone slate roof, and it has a gable end facing the street. The cottage is two storeys high and has four bays.
The entrance is located to the left of the centre and features a 19th-century plank door. There is a similar entrance on the right side, which has a recessed plank door. On the ground floor, there are three windows: two are mid-19th century with chamfered surrounds, and one is a former two-light window with a flat-faced mullion, although the mullion is now missing. The windows include six-pane sashes and three-pane fixed lights.
On the upper floor, there are four windows, three of which were originally two-light with chamfered sills, but the mullions are now missing. These windows have sashes without glazing bars, while the mid-19th-century window sashes do have glazing bars. The left-hand gable end has a right-of-centre ridge stack, and there is a projecting gable end stack on the right. At the rear, there is a projecting round stair turret with a lean-to roof, likely added to the existing house in the late 17th century. Inside, there are stone steps leading to the stair turret.
