Description

The bandstand in Ripon’s Spa Gardens dates from the late 19th century. It is constructed of cast iron set on a brick plinth, with ashlar dressings. The structure is octagonal in shape and features piers with Composite capitals and intricate cast-iron spandrels that include lyre ornaments. Elaborate cast iron brackets extend outward from the piers, adorned with a painted flower motif, to support baskets of real flowers. The roof has a fretwork valance, with cast iron cresting along the eaves and a cast iron corona at the center. The balustrade showcases characteristic Art Nouveau balusters that incorporate a daisy motif, along with panels depicting bluebirds and butterflies.
