Description

Allerton House is a combined house and cottage, now functioning as a single dwelling. It consists of two sections built in different periods: the house on the right dates from the late 18th to early 19th century, while the cottage on the left was constructed in the early to mid-19th century.

The house is made of red-brown brick and features a slate roof with stone coping, kneelers, and brick chimneys at each end. It has two storeys and three bays. The central entrance includes a six-panel door topped by a decorated radial fanlight, set within a doorcase that has attached reeded columns and consoles supporting a dentilled pediment. The frieze and spandrels are adorned with roundels. On either side of the entrance are late 19th-century canted bay windows with sash windows and modillion cornices. Above, there are 16-pane sash windows set in flush wood architraves beneath stucco lintels with keyblocks and cills. The eaves are also dentilled.

The cottage, constructed of pale brown brick, has a slate roof with stone coping and kneeler end chimneys. It features two storeys and two bays, with a central six-panel door and an oblong fanlight with glazing bars, all framed by an architrave under a stucco lintel with a keyblock. The cottage also has 16-pane sash windows in flush wood architraves beneath stucco lintels with keys and cills.

In front of the property, there is a dwarf wall with stone coping that ramps up between the house and the cottage, complemented by simple iron railings and gates.
