Description

The gates and gate piers adjoining the north-east rear range of The Old Rectory date from the mid-18th century. They are constructed from sandstone ashlar and feature wrought-iron gates. The piers are square in plan, with distinct bases and abaci. The gates have swept and scrolled tops, along with square-section bars that include knobs on the lower intermediate bars. It appears that the gateway is not in its original position, as the adjacent building once extended onto this site. Nonetheless, the gateway enhances the setting of The Old Rectory.
