Description

Nos 85 and 86 on High Street is a house that has been converted into a shop and offices. It dates from the mid to late 18th century and has undergone some alterations. The building is constructed of red-brown brick in Flemish bond and features a Welsh slate roof. It has an L-shaped plan, with a two-storey wing at the rear left of the three-storey front range, which has three bays.

On the ground floor, there is a passage entrance to Wheldon's Terrace on the right, with square 20th-century shop windows flanking a central door. The upper floors contain sash windows with glazing bars, although some have been replaced with plate glass on the first floor. The sash boxes are flush and exposed, with ashlar sills and flat arches made of orange brick, which include ashlar keystones. The keystones on the first floor are taller than the flat arches, while the second floor has arches that are less tall. A dentil cornice runs along the top of the building, and there is a shaped kneeler and ashlar coping on the left side. The end stacks have been rebuilt.

The rear wing features a landing window and other original windows on the left return, while the right return includes a ground-floor canted bay window and a first-floor window, both of which are 16-pane sashes.
