Description

The Fleece Inn is a house that has been converted into an inn, likely dating from the 15th century, with later alterations. It is constructed from medieval sandstone and timber framing, topped with pantile roofs. The building has two storeys plus lofts, featuring a gabled range to the left and a gabled cross wing that projects forward to the right, with a rear wing on the left.

On the left side, there is a two-storey square bay window with 19th-century casement windows and a plain tile pent roof. The central entrance has a part-glazed door beneath a plain tile pent-roofed porch. The right wing also has a two-storey square bay window, which includes a five-light double-chamfered mullion window beneath a segmental relieving arch on the ground floor and a three-light double-chamfered mullion window on the first floor, topped with a hipped plain tile roof. The left return features a ground-floor two-light mullion window with a stanchion.

Both front gables are timber framed, each with a three-light wooden mullion window featuring old leaded cames and quarry panes. To the right of the projecting bay on the right wing, there is a small porch at the angle, which has a ground-floor two-light chamfered mullion window and a first-floor two-light old chamfered mullion window. A stack is located at the right end of the building.

Inside, there is a salt box at the back of the fire wall in the ground floor room to the right, a post on a padstone in the left bar, and the rear wing is constructed with post-and-beam techniques, featuring stop-chamfered first-floor beams.
