Description
The wall with gate piers and two sets of gates enclosing the churchyard of Christ the Consoler was built in 1874 by William Burges for Lady Mary Vyner. It is constructed from gritstone laid in snecked courses, featuring wooden gates with iron fittings. The walls are approximately 1.2 metres high and have gates on the south and west sides. The gate piers stand about 1.5 metres high, topped with caps shaped like truncated pyramids with castellated edges. Each double gate is divided into two panels filled with diagonal boards, equipped with ring latches and strap hinges. The wall has chamfered coping and is included for its group value.
