Description

A pair of gate piers, dating from the 19th century, are located approximately 1.5 metres east of Brompton Hall in Brompton-by-Sawdon. They are made of sandstone ashlar and feature vermiculated sandstone. The piers stand on plinths and are approximately 3 metres high. Each face of the piers has vermiculated long and short quoins that create alternating bands of rustication. There is a band of raised key moulding at the impost level beneath a frieze that is carved with swags. The piers are topped with cornices that have flat caps.
