Description
This structure consists of a wall, two gate piers, a gate post, and a gate, built around 1846 for George Hudson's Great North of England Railway. The boundary wall is approximately 25 meters long and 1.5 meters high, constructed from rubble with rock-faced ashlar coping. The gate piers are made of ashlar, have a square plan, and feature plain cornices and pyramidal caps. The cast-iron gate post stands about 2 meters high and has five rear projections for gate connections, with a base that allows the post to swivel. It is topped with a semicircular cap and a knob finial. The timber-framed gate includes two oblique struts and an oblique tension rail above, supported by four cast-iron horizontal rails. At the time of the last survey, the gate was partially collapsed.
