Description
This is a barn located to the north-west of Far Cappleside Farmhouse, dated 1698, with some alterations from the 19th century. It is built of watershot masonry with stone dressings and features a stone slate roof. The barn has five bays, and the central waggon entrance has a chamfered surround and a segmental arch made of chamfered voussoirs. To the right of the entrance, there is a small window with a plain surround and 6 pane sashes. On the right-hand side, there are two former entrances that have chamfered jambs and Tudor arched lintels, which are now partly blocked to create windows with 6 pane sashes. Inside, the roof trusses include short king posts that rest on collars, with V struts supporting the tie beams. The tie beam of the third truss is inscribed with "CL 1698."
