Description
The gatehouse located approximately 500 metres to the south-west of Bedale Hall dates from the early 18th century. It is constructed of brick and rubblestone, topped with a graduated stone slate roof. The building has a square plan and is two storeys high with one bay.
On the ground floor, there is a bricked-up round brick arch featuring a moulded impost band. The first floor has a band and a blind window opening that includes a moulded stone cill and a flat brick arch. A heavy wooden eaves cornice adds to the architectural detail. The pyramidal roof is topped with a central stone stack that has a plinth and table. The rear and side elevations mirror the front, with rubblestone on the ground floor, and the rear features a sash window with glazing bars on the first floor.
