Description

This early 19th-century shop and house occupies a prominent position on the south side of High Street in Knaresborough. The building is constructed of coursed gritstone with a Westmorland slate roof. It is three storeys high and three bays wide. The front features a stone surround for the paired six-panel front door and overlight. To the left is a small shop window with a plain wooden casing, while a probably 20th-century bow window with small panes is located on the right. A segmental-arched passageway, accentuated by voussoirs, is positioned far to the left. Recessed 16-pane sash windows with wedge lintels and sill bands are present on the upper floors. Brickwork visible in the gable ends suggests that stone was used primarily for the facade. Brick stacks are located at each end, one to the left and one to the right.
