Description
Nos 2 and 4 Market Place is a house that has been converted into two shops. It dates from the 17th century and has 19th-century alterations. The building features a timber-frame and brick construction, painted, with a concrete tile roof. It is two storeys high and has two bays. The central shop doors are paired, with large overlights; the door to the right (number 2) is a 20th-century glazed door, while the door to the left (number 4) is a six-panel, part-glazed door. There is a plate-glass shop window to the right and a Gothick-traceried shop window to the left. On the first floor, there are two four-pane sash windows, along with a wooden cornice and moulded gutter brackets. The end stacks are positioned forward of the ridge.
Inside number 4, which was not seen during the resurvey but has been reported to contain significant features, there are massive moulded beams and joists, as well as moulded post and panel work on the stairs. Additionally, there is a wall cupboard with fielded panels and a moulded cornice, and the doors are fitted with strap-hinges and butterfly hinges.
