Description

This is a limestone ashlar wall associated with the Old Court House. It likely dates to the 19th century, although it incorporates older materials, including fragments from the medieval period. The wall runs from number 23 Kirkgate along the south and east sides of the garden, as far north as the Court House itself.

The wall features a trefoil-headed lancet window, now blind. There's also a 2-centred arched doorway with moulded imposts, voussoirs, and a hood mould decorated with nailhead ornamentation. A timber planked door, possibly dating from the 16th century, sits within this doorway, featuring a segmental head and fleur-de-lys in the spandrels. Additional features include an ashlar rainwater spout, an unmoulded 2-centred arched gateway, and a 19th-century 2-centred arched gateway above which the wall is ramped upwards.
