Description

This is a lock dating to circa 1790, constructed as part of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. The lock was engineered by Robert Whitworth. It is built of dressed sandstone, with rebates designed to accommodate wooden gates. The lock’s coping is ramped and curves outwards to meet the canal basin at the lower end.
