Description
This pair of chest tombs, dating from the late 18th century, is located between the north aisle and the vestry of the Church of Saint Michael. They are made of sandstone ashlar. The outer tomb commemorates Katherine, the wife of Rev John Whaley, who died in 1799. It features an inscription on a marble oval inset panel on the side, flanked by pilasters adorned with urns and festoons, as well as fluted pilasters at the ends. The inner tomb is dedicated to Mary Hartley, who died in 1797, and also includes an inscription on an oval panel on the side, flanked by pilasters, with circular panels featuring acanthus rosettes and fluted pilasters at the ends.
