Description

Trenholme Farmhouse is a mid-18th century farmhouse with 19th century alterations. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, featuring a later brick porch and some stone in the rear extensions. The roof is pantiled with stone copings and kneelers, and there are renewed brick stacks. The side wings have corrugated asbestos roofs. The building has two storeys and three windows, with one-storey pent side extensions. A central porch leads to a half-glazed four-panel door. The early 19th century windows are 16-pane sashes in box frames, set under slightly narrower flat gauged-brick arches with stone cills. There is a modern three-light casement window in the right extension. A two-brick band runs along the first floor, and there is a stepped and cogged brick eaves cornice. The farmhouse features end chimneys and a rear gabled wing built in the late 18th century, with extensions to the left and right made of brick and stone. The left extension has been reduced from two storeys to one and has a monopitch roof. Yorkshire sashes are present in the return gable ends.

Inside, there is a good staircase with a closed string, grip handrail, and closely-set, finely-turned balusters with urns and square knops. The parlour and chamber above both have cupboards with doors of four fielded panels flanking fireplaces, with modern fireplaces downstairs and Victorian ones upstairs. Throughout the house, doors are of four fielded panels. An original grate is found in another bedroom, and the attic is floored below the eaves level. The roof features stout pegged collared trusses with carpenters' marks.
