Description
Gardener's Cottage is an estate cottage built in the late 19th century by George Jack for Sir Hugh Bell. It features a roughcast exterior on a brick plinth with some areas of clap-boarding. The roof is pantiled and includes brick chimneys and a zinc door hood. The cottage is two stories tall with three bays; the right bay projects and has a gabled roof, while there is a lean-to on the left side.
The entrance is a half-glazed door located left of center, which is sheltered by a wide, tented hood. To the left of the door is a casement window, while the right bay is mostly blank except for a boarded door on the inner return. The cottage has irregularly placed casement windows, including a two-light window in the left bay, a wide four-light window to the right of center, and a small window in the lean-to. The gable of the projecting bay and the half-gable of the lean-to are both boarded. The eaves are deeply swept with exposed rafter ends, leading to a very high nipped roof that features three tall, irregularly placed corniced stacks.
