Description
Ingleby Cross Post Office is a house with a shop, dating from the 18th century and early 19th century, consisting of two sections, with the second being part of a former separate cottage to the north-west. The older section is built of red brick in English garden wall bond, featuring a pantiled roof with stone copings, a tile ridge, and a brick stack. The newer section, located on the left return, is made of coursed tooled sandstone and also has a pantiled roof, stone coping, a kneeler, and a stack.
The older part is two storeys high with two bays. There are five renewed steps leading to a boarded door on the right. To the left, there is a small 30-pane bow window set in bowed masonry. Above this, there is a small-paned modern casement window under a flat gauged brick arch. On the right side, there is a small blank lean-to. The gable end faces the road and features a ridge chimney. The left return has three bays, with the two right bays being the brick section. There are three steps leading to a half-glazed door under a flat gauged brick arch on the left. To the right, there is a replaced 16-pane sash window in a wood architrave under a stone lintel, and above it, there is a two-light modern casement with glazing bars. The brick cornice is stepped and corbelled. In the left stone bay, there are 16-pane sashes in wood architraves with stone cills. It is noted that there is a date of 1745 on a hinge of a bedroom door.
