Description
The barn and byre located to the east of Scarth Wood Farmhouse, likely built in the late 18th century, is constructed from coursed sandstone featuring large herringbone-tooled quoins set on a rougher plinth. It has a pantiled roof with a stone ridge, copings, and block kneelers. The two-storey barn includes a stable-type door on the right and a loading door on the left, surrounded by a pattern of vent slits. The one-storey byre on the right may be older and has one stable door. An L-shaped one-storey extension, which also has a similar door, is present. There is an open cartshed at the end on the rear, while a covered foldyard behind is not considered of special interest. This building is included for its group value.
