Description

This is a mid-18th century house, originally a single dwelling, now divided into two separate homes. The building is located on the west side of High Street, Swainby. It is constructed of red brick in an English garden wall bond pattern, with a stone plinth. The eaves are stepped and cogged, and the roof is covered in pantiles with a tile ridge, stone gable copings, and stone-coped brick chimneys. The building is two storeys high, with two bays, arranged irregularly. A six-panel door is located in the centre left, set within a 20th-century boarded porch. To the left of the door is an early 19th-century canted bay with a flat lead roof, and a 12-pane sash window above. The right bay is wider and contains a modern 3-light casement window where a 12-pane sash originally sat; both upper windows have stone sills. A small fixed light, possibly a former fire window, is situated at ground floor level on the right. The roof has a high pitch, with end chimneys. A modern glazed door in a chamfered, alternating-block stone surround provides access to the right return of No. 82. Later 19th or early 20th-century rear extensions are not of architectural significance.
