Description
Crown Place, built in 1884 by George Dawson to the design of J H Hirst, is a terrace of shops comprising Nos 1 to 3. The building stands three storeys high and features two windows on each floor, including one window with a splayed corner treatment and one window return. It has a slated roof with bracketed eaves, and grit stone ashlar sill bands and strings at each floor level. The second-floor windows are two-light sash windows with plain surrounds. The ground floor is distinguished by rusticated pilasters and shop windows that are flanked by attached Corinthian columns. The shop windows of Nos 2 and 3 have moulded heads and keys, and there are recessed entrances with fanlights. This building is included for its group value with the Crown Hotel and the Royal Pump Room Museum.
