Description
Low Roans is a farmhouse that likely dates from the early 18th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed of painted brick in English garden wall bond (4:1) and features a pantile roof. It is two storeys high with an attic and has three bays. The central entrance consists of a part-glazed door from the 20th century, set beneath a flat brick arch, with the circular ends of two iron tie-rods visible above. Each of the outer bays contains a 16-pane sash window on both floors, while the central bay has a 12-pane sash window above the door and an 8-pane window to its right. All windows are framed with flush wood architraves. The eaves are stepped and cogged, and the building has raised brick verges and end stacks. The returns feature tumbled-in brickwork at the gables. A 20th-century rear outshut, which is not of special interest, is located on the site of former rear ranges.
