Description
Woodside is a farmhouse built in the mid to late 18th century, with some alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed from red-brown brick in English garden wall bond (4:1) and features a pantile roof. The building has two storeys plus a loft and consists of three bays, with a central three-bay rear wing that was originally one storey but was raised to two storeys in the 19th century.
The garden front includes a central door with six fielded panels, an overlight, and a wooden architrave. There are 20th-century cross-casement windows with concrete sills and brick stretcher heads. A band of three stepped courses runs along the first floor, complemented by an eaves band, raised verges with brick kneelers, and end stacks.
At the rear, the main range has a blocked central first-floor window opening, with a Yorkshire Insurance fire insurance plaque to its right. The eaves are tabled and dentilled. The wing features ground floor brick from the 18th century, an inserted garage door in the left bay, a boarded door in a wood surround with a 12-pane side-sliding sash to the right, and on the first floor, there are four-pane sashes in flush wood surrounds. The wing also has dentilled eaves and a raised verge, while an outbuilding attached to the end of the wing is not of special interest.
Inside, the hall has a red and black tiled floor, and the doors and architrave soffits are panelled. The interior features large-scantling chamfered spine beams, a dog-leg stair, blocked pigeon holes in the loft gables, and a large corniced fireplace in the wing.
