Description
Cornborough Villa is a house dating from 1742, although it has earlier origins. It is constructed of sandstone ashlar and has a pantile roof, featuring an L-shaped plan. The building has two storeys and a four-bay garden front. The main entrance is a six-panel door located in the third bay, with the top four panels fielded and the lower two flush, topped by an overlight with patterned glazing and a channelled lintel that includes a dated keystone marked T G. 1742. There is a 20th-century French door in the first bay, and throughout the house, there are 16-pane sash windows set under keyed channelled lintels. The exterior also features a moulded eaves course, gable coping, shaped kneelers, and end and ridge stacks.
Inside, there are features that suggest 17th-century origins, including a massive bressumer and inglenook in the kitchen, a large beam in the hallway, and a bressumer, inglenook, and evidence of a former spice cupboard in the dining room. Additionally, there is an 18th-century reeded archway in the hall.
