Description
West Lodge to Thornton Stud is a lodge built in the late 18th century. It features an ashlar front with brick returns and has a graduated stone slate roof. The building is two storeys high with one bay, and there is a door located on the right return. The main front is a single storey. It has a plinth and a full-height central canted bay with tall blocked window openings. There is a moulded band, a plain frieze, and a moulded cornice. The roof of the canted bay is hipped, as is the main roof which has a central stack. The blocked windows have stone sills and flat brick arches on the returns. This lodge was formerly associated with Thornton Hall, which has since been demolished.
