SOUTH STAINLEY WITH CAYTON High Cayton WATER LANE (west end) Barn and wheel-house approximately 30 metres north-west of the western farmhouse at High Cayton

GV II Threshing barn and wheel-house. Early-mid C19. Coursed squared pink-grey gritstone, pantile roof with two or three eaves courses of stone slates. Seven bays with polygonal wheel-house to rear of bays five and six. Quoins. West side: tall segmental-arched cart entrance with edge-tooled surround, byre door left with plain surround, square window to right; pitching doors under eaves, bays two and five. Rear: central threshing door, byre door far left. Wheel-house has hipped roof and rectangular openings under eaves.

INTERIOR: Original roof structure survives, wheel-house machinery missing. Barn has six queen post trusses.

The barn stands on part of the site of the deserted village of High Cayton. Included for group value.
