SE 87 SW NORTON-ON-DERWENT SCARBOROUGH ROAD (north-west side) 3/36 Quarry House (shown on map as Quarry Cottage)

II House. Early C19 incorporating earlier house, with C20 modernisation. Chiselled limestone with pantile roof and brick stacks, some rebuilt. Double-depth plan. 2-storey and attic, 2-window front, with 2-storey, single window flanking wings. C20 French door to centre part, with canted bay with cornice and small-pane sashes to left. First-floor windows are 2- light, small-pane horizontal sliding sashes with wedge lintels. Single smaller horizontal sliding sash to attic. Both wings have 2-light, small- pane casements with segmental brick arches to ground floor and inserted wedge lintels to first floor. All windows have painted stone sills. M- shaped roofs with coped gables and shaped kneelers. End stacks to centre and end stacks to wings. Interior: closed-string staircase, panelled below, with clustered straight balusters, octagonal newel and ramped-up, moulded handrail rises through first floor to attic. Panelled shutters to all ground and first-floor front rooms. Ground-floor room to right has architraves with flutes and paterae. First-floor room to right has moulded recessed ceiling and hob grate in fireplace with late C19 nursery-rhyme tiles.
