Description
Old Barn Garth and Barn Garth Cottage are two houses, likely built in the early 18th century, with the fourth bay possibly being an extension. They are constructed of roughcast stone and topped with a slate roof. The buildings are two storeys high and consist of four bays. The windows feature three-light casements. The entrances to the second and fourth bays have half-glazed doors, with the fourth bay also having a lean-to canopy. There is a gable-end stack and a cross-axial stack. The left side has a wide verge and small attic lights, while the right side features sashed windows with vertical glazing bars and horns. A medieval shaft capital, likely from Cartmel Priory, is incorporated into the wall near the head of the first-floor window. There is also a 20th-century gabled wing. The rear of the buildings is similar in appearance. Inside, there is a cupboard with a fielded-panel door.
