Description

The Taylor Monument, located approximately 29.5 metres south of the Priory Church in Lower Allithwaite, is a Grade II listed gravestone dating from 1786. It is made of ashlar and features a vertical slab with a curved top. The monument commemorates Reverend William Taylor, who was a fellow of Emmanuel College and the master of Hawkshead School, where his most notable pupil was the poet William Wordsworth. The inscription on the monument concludes with a verse.
