Description
The lych gate located to the south of the Church of St Peter in Heversham was built in 1894. It features two dressed sandstone piers with chamfered plinths, along with a timber intermediate pier. The roof is made of stone slates and has a stone ridge, with a pitched design supported by A-frame trusses that include cusped windbraces and a ridge-piece. An inscription on the west pier commemorates John Audland, a church warden who served for nearly 13 years and passed away in 1892. The inscription reads: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN MEMORY OF JOHN AUDLAND MRCS FOR NEARLY 13 YEARS CHURCH WARDEN OF THIS PARISH WHO DIED ON THE FEAST OF THE PURIFICATION 1892 THIS LYCH GATE WAS ERECTED BY HIS SONS AND DAUGHTER AD 1894."
