Description
Collinfield Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates from the mid to late 16th century, but it was certainly built by the early 17th century. It underwent extensive remodeling by George Sedgwick, who was the Secretary to Anne, Countess of Pembroke, after he acquired the property in 1668. The building has seen later additions and alterations. It is constructed of wet-dashed rubble and features graduated slate roofs with a gabled, jettied dormer on the east elevation, along with rendered cylindrical mid and end chimneys. The farmhouse has two storeys and a gabled porch on the west (courtyard) elevation, which includes an initialed and dated inscription on a stone panel that was relocated from above the inner, studded, battened door. The inscription reads: NUNC MEA MOX HUIUS SED POSTEA NESCIO CUJUS I. & M.G. 1663.
The east elevation has four bays and consists of two sections. The right-hand section features two casements on each floor, a two-light, wood-mullioned fire window to the left, and a three-light, stone-mullioned cellar window. The left-hand section, which dates from the late 18th century, has a part-glazed door in a semicircular-headed surround and a canted bay to the left, along with two casements and a dormer above. The interior of the farmhouse is very well preserved, with further details available in the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments for Westmorland from 1936.
