Description
Middle Birkby Farmhouse and attached outbuilding is a farmhouse and outbuildings, probably dating from the 18th century, with later alterations. The structure is made of stone rubble with slobbered mortar, part roughcast, and has a tile-hung return and a slate roof. It is two storeys high and has four bays, with the fourth bay being lower. There is an adjoining outbuilding that has a single-storey wing extending to the road.
On the ground floor, the first bay features a sashed window with glazing bars and horns, the third bay has a casement window under a dripstone, and the fourth bay has a pivoted casement with vertical glazing bars. The first floor has sashed windows with single glazing bars and horns, while the fourth bay includes a two-light mullioned window. The entrance to the fourth bay has a gabled canopy and a four-fielded-panel door. The entrance to the outbuilding leads to a stone stair. The building has three gable-end stacks and a cross-axial stack, and the wing features various windows and an entrance. The rear of the building has an outshut under a catslide roof. The interior has not been inspected.
