Description

Swan House and Swan Cottage are former inn buildings, now divided into two private residences, dated 1616. They are constructed of coursed, lime-washed rubble with a Welsh slate roof, which replaced earlier thatch. The roof has three 20th-century gabled dormers of varying sizes. A brick chimney sits in the middle, and stone chimneys are located at each end, with the northern chimney projecting. Both parts of the building are single-storey with dormers. Swan House has three bays and a central glazed door flanked by windows with glazing bars. Swan Cottage comprises five bays, featuring a mullioned two-light window to the left. A second window replaced what was originally a door. A central sash window survives, and the present glazed door and window to the right replaced earlier windows. An initialled date stone, reading "I.H. B.H. 1616," is located on the extreme right of the building. Inside Swan House, a cruck truss remains. Swan Cottage features a late 17th/early 18th century corniced fireplace with a moulded surround.
