Description

Beacon Tower is a Grade I listed structure built in 1719 on the site of earlier beacons. It was repaired in 1780 and is constructed of red sandstone. The tower is low and square with a pyramid-shaped stone roof. Each side features a round-arched opening with keystones and wrought iron grilles, along with small loops on the north and south sides. There is a round-headed doorway on the east side. Situated on top of a hill at an elevation of about 930 feet, it serves as a very prominent landmark.
