Description
No. 54 is a house that has been converted into a shop, dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century. It was built on the site of one of the old Cross Houses and has undergone later additions and alterations. The building features hammer-dressed ashlar stonework and a moulded cast-iron gutter. It has a graduated slate roof with a rendered chimney at the west end and a stone chimney in the middle. The structure is three storeys high and consists of three bays. The shop front is made of corniced wood and includes vermiculated plinth blocks supporting panelled pilasters, with a semicircular-headed carriage arch on the right. Each upper floor has three wood-mullioned and transomed two-light casement windows, which are set in recessed surrounds above the shop front.
