Description
Laburnum House is a house with attached stables at the rear, which have been converted into a cottage. It dates from the early 19th century and may incorporate part of an earlier cottage. The building underwent later alterations, including a refronting around 1850. It is constructed of limestone ashlar, featuring a rusticated ground floor, a plinth, and a cill band at the first floor. The roof is hipped and covered with graduated greenslate, with stone ridges, two end chimneys, and corniced gutters. The house has two storeys and three windows: the upper floor has sash windows, while the ground floor features two later bays, each with a dentilled cornice and 20th-century replacement tripartite sash windows that are in keeping with the style. The central entrance has a six-panelled door with a patterned oblong fanlight, set in a doorcase with narrow impost blocks and a cornice. The building is listed partly for its group value. For further information, refer to J.F. Curwen's "History of Heversham with Milnthorpe," published by Titus Wilson in 1930.
