Description
Milnthorpe Bridge over the River Bela is a bridge built in 1813 to carry the new Turnpike road from Milnthorpe over the river. The bridge is constructed from squared coursed limestone with ashlar dressings. It features a single segmental arch that is flanked by pilasters, and it has sloping parapets with a string course at carriageway level and pilasters at each end. The bridge also has landscape value. For further information and a map of the routes of both the old and new roads, refer to J. F. Curwen's "History of Heversham with Milnthorpe," published by Titus Wilson in 1930, page 74, and "Records of Kendal Volume III," published by Titus Wilson in 1926, page 228.
