Description
The Parker family vault, located southeast of the Church of St Mary, was built in 1828 for the Parkers of Petteril Green. It is constructed from calciferous sandstone ashlar and features a square shape with angle buttresses, a moulded plinth, and parapet stones adorned with carved leaves and quatrefoils. The vault has a panelled cast iron door set within a pointed Gothic arch and a pointed-arched side window with a scrolled grille. The opposite side includes a cross loop opening. The sloping slab roof, which is supported by corbels, is partly missing, and some parapet stones have fallen. Above the door, there is a raised panel that currently has no inscription. A brass plate that once recorded the deaths of Margaret Parker in 1828, her husband Christopher Parker in 1838, and various children is now missing.
